Sand paintings, made with only a rake if you’d believe it, are the specialty of San Francisco artist Andreas Amador. The ideas behind his work is far more complex than I am capable of conveying; it involves the pathways of energy found in nature, studying fractals and mandalas… I suggest you check out his site. He usually creates the sand drawings during a full moon when the tide is at its lowest.
These pop-ups, by Mengyu Chen, are essentially experiments for a comic book she is working on. I think they are pretty amazing all on their own.
